Přehled nežádoucích účinků cytostatik

Cytostatika se liší zásadním způsobem od ostatních léčiv velmi úzkou terapeutickou šíří, neboli rozdílem dávky, kdy jsou neúčinné a dávky, kdy mohou člověka zabít. Lékař, které tyto léky podává, musí být velmi dobře seznám s jejich nežádoucími účinky a musí umět pomoci pacientovi se s nastalou komplikací vypořádat. Všechna cytostatika tlumí různou měrou krvetvorbu, příznaky nedostatku bílých krvinek (infekce) a krevních destiček (krvácení) jsou nejčastější. Tento nežádoucí účinek je společný všem cytostatikům. Jednotlivá cytostatika pak mají další, nežádoucí účinky, která se obvykle projevují poškozením určitých orgánů či tkání. Následující přehled tyto situace stručně charakterizuje.
